Crochet blooming dog costume your pooch will become a posy when you crochet a blooming collar for Halloween fun! There will be no better-dressed dog out trick-or-treating.

What you will need: RED HEART Super Saver: 1 skein each 722 Pretty n’ Pink MC and 672 Spring Green CC. Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 5.5mm [US I-9]. Yarn needle.

GAUGE: 12 sc = 4” [10 cm]. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

Bloom will fit a medium size dog with a neck measurement from 11-15” [28-38 cm]. Finished circumference = 13” [33 cm].

PETAL (Make 9) With MC, ch 8.

Row 1 (Right Side): Dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 3 ch, 6 dc in last ch, working on opposite side of beginning ch, dc in next 5 ch; turn – 16 sts.

Row 2: Ch 2, skip first dc, dc in next 4 dc, [2 dc in next dc] 6 times, dc in next 5 dc; turn – 23 sts. Row 3: Ch 2, skip first dc, dc in next 4 dc, [2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc] 6 times, dc in last 5 sts (4 dc and top of ch-2); turn – 28 sts.

Row 4: Ch 2, skip first dc, dc in next 4 dc, [2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc] 6 times, dc in last 5 sts; turn – 34 sts. Row 5: Ch 2, skip first dc, dc in next 4 dc, [2 dc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc] 6 times, dc in last 5 sts; turn – 40 sts. Row 6: Slip st in each st across. Fasten off.

LEAF (Make 5) With CC, ch 8.

Row 1 (Right Side): Dc in 3rd ch from hook and in next 4 ch, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) all in last ch, working on opposite side of beginning ch, dc in next 5 ch; turn.

Row 2: Ch 2, skip first dc, dc in next 7 dc, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) all in ch-1 space, dc in next 8 dc; turn. Row 3: Ch 2, skip first dc, dc in next 10 dc, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) all in ch-1 space, dc in last 11 sts (10 dc and top of ch-2); turn.

Row 4: Ch 2, skip first dc, dc in next 13 dc, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) all in ch-1 space, dc in last 14 sts; turn. Row 5: Ch 2, skip first dc, dc in next 16 dc, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) all in ch-1 space, dc in last 17 sts; turn. Row 6: Slip st in each st across. Fasten off.

COLLAR

Row 1: With CC, join leaves as follows: with right side facing and holding leaf point down, join yarn to upper right corner; ch 1, skipping the slip st row (Row 6) sc in the side of next 4 rows, skip 2 rows, sc in the side of the next 4 rows; [pick up next leaf and work across in same manner] 4 times; turn – 40 sc.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across changing to MC in last sc; turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first 4 sc, with right side facing hold a petal on top of work and skipping slip st row as before, [working through both thicknesses of petal and Collar, sc in next 4 rows on petal, skip 2 rows on petal (do not skip sc on Collar), sc in next 4 rows on petal] 4 times, sc in last 4 sc on Collar; turn.

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn.

Row 5: [Hold a petal on top of work, [working through both thicknesses of petal and Collar, sc in next 4 rows on petal, skip 2 rows on petal (do not skip sc on Collar), sc in next 4 rows on petal] 5 times; turn.

Rows 6-10: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn. Fasten off. FINISHING Sew last row of Collar to first row to form a long tube. With 2 strands of CC, make a chain 36” (91 cm) long. Trim ends, thread chain through tube. Weave in all loose ends.
