  • Red Heart Scrubby: 2 balls of Coconut
  • Susan Bates Crochet Hook: 5mm [US H-8]
  • Yarn needle
  • Tape measure
  • Scissors
      • GAUGE:
      • 14 sts = 4″ (10 cm); 9 rows = 4″ (10 cm) in double crochet (dc). CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
      • SPECIAL STITCH:
      • Fpdc (Front post double crochet) = Yarn over, insert hook from front side of work to back and to front again around post of indicated stitch; yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through 2 loops (2 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through 2 loops (1 loop remains on hook).
      • NOTE:
      • Back Scratcher measures 5-1/2″x22″ (14 x 56 cm), not including handles.

DIRECTIONS:

      • Ch 22.
      • Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook (3 skipped ch count as first dc) and in each remaining ch across, turn—20 dc.
      • Rows 2-48: Ch 3 (counts as dc), Fpdc around next 18 dc, dc in top of turning ch, turn.
      • First Handle: Ch 35, skip first 19 sts of Row 48, slip st in last st, turn, sc in each ch across, slip st in beginning of Row 48. Fasten off.
      • Second Handle: Join yarn with slip st in corner of short end of scratcher that does not yet have a handle, ch 35, slip st in other corner of short end of scratcher, turn, sc in each ch across, slip st near joining slip st. Fasten off.
      • FINISHING:
      • Weave in ends.
