AUNT LYDIA’S® Fashion Crochet size 3: 2 balls 6 Scarlet

Susan Bates® Knitting Needles: 3.5mm [US 4] set of 4 doublepointed needles or two 24” [60 cm] long circular needles; one 3.5mm [US 4] 29” [73.5 cm] long circular needle

Susan Bates® Steel Crochet Hook: 3.5mm [US E-4] Tapestry needle, 3.5mm [US E-4] stitch markers, blocking board and T-pins, stiffening product (optional).

GAUGE: Gauge is not critical. Select needles that allow you to work medium to slightly tight stitches.

Doily measures about 20” (51 cm) diameter

Notes

1. Doily is worked in rounds from the center outwards.

2. Begin working doily using double pointed needles or two circular needles, whichever you prefer. 3. Markers are used to separate pattern repeats.

4. Eyelet Heart pattern can be worked by following the written instructions or reading the chart. Read all rows of chart from right to left.

Special Stitches s2kp (slip 2, knit, pass 2 slipped stitches over) =

Slip 2 stitches as if to k2tog, k1, pass the 2 slipped stitches over the knit stitch and off the needle – 2 sts decreased.

ssk = Slip next 2 stitches, one at a time as if to knit, to right needle, insert point of left needle through front of sts, knit these sts together through back loop

DOILY

With double pointed needles or two shorter circular needles, cast on 8 sts.

Notes: If working with double pointed needles, place 3 sts on each of 2 needles and 2 sts on a third needle. If working with two circular needles, place 4 sts on each needle. Place marker for beginning of round.

Prepare to work in rounds.

Round 1: Knit.

Round 2: [Yo, k1] 8 times—16 sts.

Round 3: Knit.

Round 4: [Yo, k2, place marker] 7 times, yo, k2, slip beginning of round marker—24 sts. Change to one longer circular needle when number of stitches no longer fit comfortably on double pointed needles.

Rounds 5–46:

Knit odd-numbered rounds and work even-numbered rounds as follows: [Yo, knit to marker, slip marker] 8 times—192 sts at the end of Round 46.

Round 47: Knit, removing first 7 markers as you come to them. Do not remove beginning of round marker.

Round 48: *[Yo, k3] 4 times, place marker; repeat from * to last 12 sts, [yo, k3] 4 times, slip beginning of round marker—256 sts.

Rounds 49–51: Knit, slipping markers as you come to them.

Eyelet Hearts

Round 52: *K6, yo, ssk, k8, slip marker; repeat from * 15 more times.

Rounds 53 and all odd-numbered rounds: Knit, slipping markers as you come to them.

Round 54: *K4, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k7, slip marker; repeat from * 15 more times.

Round 56: *K3, [k2tog, yo] twice, k1, yo, ssk, k6, slip marker; repeat from * 15 more times.

Round 58: *K2, [k2tog, yo] twice, k1, [yo, ssk] twice, k5, slip marker; repeat from * 15 more times. Round 60: *K1, [k2tog, yo] 3 times, k1, [yo, ssk] twice, k4, slip marker; repeat from * 15 more times. Round 62: *[K2tog, yo] twice, k2, yo, ssk, k1, [yo, ssk] twice, k3, slip marker; repeat from * 15 more times.

Round 64: *[K1, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo] twice, k4, slip marker; repeat from * 15 more times.

Round 66: *K2, yo, s2kp, yo, k3, yo, s2kp, yo, k5, remove marker; repeat from * 15 more times. Note: Do not remove beginning of round marker.

Rounds 67–71: Knit.

Round 72: With crochet hook, *insert hook into the next 4 sts removing them from needle, chain 7; repeat from * until all sts have been removed from needle, slip st in base of first chain-7. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Weave in ends. Block doily to size. If you wish you can stiffen the doily while blocking.
